Plaza de San Francisco

Telde, while not the prettiest of Gran Canaria’s towns, does have a very attractive Historic Quarter – The Barrio de San Francisco.
This formerly agricultural area, has become Gran Canaria’s second biggest town with a population of around 100,000.

Barrio de San Juan
The nucleus of Telde is around the 15th Century Iglesia de San Juan Bautista (Church of St. John the Baptist) and the adjacent Plaza de San Juan, with it’s large tree and colonial buildings. Inside the church is a very unusual statue of Christ made by 15th Century Mexican Indians from Maize.

Barrio de San Francisco
The nearby Barrio de San Francisco is very attractive with it’s narrow cobbled streets and flower pots full of Geraniums. The district is named after the church of the same name, with it’s two Naves and Neoclassical Doorway.
